We understand it can be a daunting and difficult time seeking urological advice. We will provide support to make the process as simple as possible. All new patients seen in The Shire Clinics will be assessed, and if necessary have a range of diagnostic tests on the day.  Please see below information to guide you through the process. Booking an appointment with our Consultant Urologists

If you are experiencing abnormal urological symptoms or have been referred by a doctor to see a Urology Consultant please book an appointment by calling 01242 437537 or emailing info@theshireclinics.co.uk

Before your appointment

Your referral will be reviewed by one of The Shire Clinics consultants before your appointment and any tests you are likely to need will be detailed in your appointment letter.  We will send you some information on the tests we think you are likely to need during your visit.

At your appointment

Please arrive 5 minutes prior to your appointment time. On arrival at your appointment, one of our team will check your personal details.  You may have some of your tests before you meet with your consultant.  This will then ensure he has the results of these tests for your consultation.  

During your appointment your Consultant will take a full medical history and undertake a physical examination. Depending on your symptoms, background and assessment, you may also have some diagnostic tests undertaken by your consultant. Your Consultant will explain any diagnostic tests that are required, any results and implications and your treatment plan or plan of care. A clinic letter will be sent to your GP and any referring doctors.

 

Following your appointment

If no further treatment is required, we will still write to your referring doctor/GP to inform them of the outcome of your consultation.

If further diagnostic tests are required, these will be arranged and explained to you. If you need a procedure, your Consultant will discuss the options with you and we can then book you in for the relevant procedure.

You will be contacted by The Shire Clinics team who will liaise with you and the hospital where the procedure will take place and a suitable date will be arranged. You will be informed of procedure codes (insured patients) or procedure fees and hospital fees (self-funding patients).

Each procedure is slightly different and requires different preparation, this will be discussed with you in more detail. The hospital will also provide you will pre-admission information.

What we are doing to protect you and keep you safe

Your safety and well-being is our highest priority when you visit us for your appointment.  We hope that this will give you some reassurance during this difficult time. 

  • The clinic you are attending does not allow patients with any Covid-19 symptoms to attend.

  • Our clinical team will be wearing Personal Protective Equipment.  

  • We will ask you to wait in a dedicated waiting area.  You will not be sat waiting with lots of other patients and we will always ensure that everyone is kept at a safe distance.

Please get in touch urgently if you are unable to attend your appointment or if you have been experiencing symptoms in the last 14 days. If you have a new persistent cough, shortness of breath, fever of 38 or greater, or new onset of loss of taste or smell, you must not attend the clinic – please ring 01242 437537 so that we can re-arrange your appointment.
